Adding an overheat alarm for Johnson/Evinrude

I have 76 Johnson 35 with no tell tale. I'd like to add an overheat alarm or gauge to prevent cooking another motor. I know some of them came with them, but it is possible to add one where there wasn't one originally?

What was used in the past and is still available via your local marine dealership is a heat gauge kit consisting of a gauge, wiring, a heat sensor, and a "L" shaped bracket that attaches to one of the head bolts via a hole in one end of the "L" bracket. The sensor screws into the "L" shaped bracket via a threaded hole in the other end of the "L" bracket. I always allowed a .010 clearance between the bottom of the sensor and the cylinder head to avoid false readings.
