Shift shaft stuck in head unit 35hp 2 stroke

I have 350 old mercury 2 stroke outboard,
I think it’s 1970’s .
i remove lower unit to change the water pump, and the unit was stuck , I force it to remove and then the shift shaft was stayed in the head unit and I can’t get it out, any Solutions?
