2001 Mercury 25 hp 2-stroke, replacement prop shaft

I have a bent prop shaft on this motor, serial number 0t201884. Original mercury part number is 44-8166231. To my surprise, the cheapest replacement prop shaft is nearly $300. I see lots of prop shafts for sale for much less, even for much larger motors. Does anyone know why this might be? Are there any other prop shafts that would be compatible for this motor that I can search for a cheaper price?
 
Try Tim's Outboard in Hackensack MN. 218 682 2331......Mike, Dan, or Theresa. Also, I have straightened them. Bring to a machine shop....call first. Easy job with a little equipment.
