Question about 2002 Volvo 5.7 Timing

I am going to check the timing for the first time.

Warm engine up

Set idle at 1000

Put in base timing mode

set advance to 2 degrees on timing light

Align mark on fly wheel

Am I missing something?

CAn anyone help point me in the right direction on what the advance setting is on this engine. In base mode 1000 rpm it is setting at about 16 degrees. If I turn the timing on the distribuor the lowest I can get it to is about 6 until the distribor bumps agaist the manifold. Any thoughts?
