Help reinstalling lower unit on 2005 Tohatsu 4 hp??

Is there a trick to get this thing back in? I've changed water pumps then reinstalled the lower on a Honda 50 and Johnson 15 no problem. The shaft seems like it is being obstructed somehow.

Please help.

Your actual model, not year, would point you to a factory service manual.
You need to align the shift linkage, drive shaft and water pump tube, and all will be well. It's a matter of feel.
