3 cylinder and 2 cylinder lower units interchangeable?

I guess more specifically, will the 60 hp triple fit a 60 hp twin?

if so, do they follow the same interchange rules such as 78(?)-81, 82-88 etc?

No they will not interchange / fit !!!------Different splines on the driveshaft for almost all years !

Sorry ----That will not work either.------Having said that the 3 cylinder gearcase was used on the 2 cylinder " commercial " models.----They use a modified driveshaft as you may already know Tim.

Right, you are more aware of these. The shaft diameter itself is different.
