My mariner engine ( F80 ELPT L4NA 2013 ) has developed an intermittent fault. On turning on the ignition it bleeps seven times (i guess this is the one normal bleep plus 6 additional ones). Most of the time the engine will then start.
The problem goes away sometimes if i trim the engines or put steering on lock one way or the other so seems to indicate a problem with the cabling ? Maybe a bad connection or partially broken wire in the loom?
I got the local mariner mechanic to take a look and the fault that was shown on the laptop was throttle position sensor. He had a play with the wiring / control cables entering the outboard through the conduit and the problem went away only for the alarm to start again the next time i went to use the boat.
Any ideas please on how to progress ? Recently had a 300 hour service , replaced an injector and crank position sensor so the engine is becoming expensive.
