I searched many responses in these forums but I don’t see a straight answer if I can use the Q designated plug in my CDI 9.9. Can anyone tell? The Q is more readily available. Thanks, Nick

The Q means it has an inductive RFI suppressor to prevent interference on electronic devices. They will work fine.

Hmmm, according to the chart below the correct plug for your 1983 Evinrude 9.9 is a QL82C

The QL77JC4 was used in 10HP engines, but yours is a 9.9.

KJ

QL77JC4 and QL82C are both listed for a 1983 9.9hp

As said above L77JC4 is the unsuppressed version of QL77JC4 and will also be suitable

Back in 1983 when the engine was new the listed plugs were L77J4 or QL77J4. both of which are superseded by those mentioned above

MarineEngine's parts lists offer both QL77JC4 and L77JC4 for the engine in question
