Spacer shift shaft aq270

Hello, question: I opened the shift shaft from my AQ270 to replace the o-ring, but i also see this iron wire. Is that original/good? Or do i have to replace that also for something else? Can't find it online/compare with a picture.

Hope someone can help!

What you removed was the shift mechanism and shift shoe.

To replace the O-ring only, you DO NOT need to remove the eccentric piston.

However, in order to replace the eccentric piston's seal, the piston must be removed from the housing.
In order to do this, you will first need to remove the spring pin from the FWD/Neutral/REV detent pin.
Once that is removed, the eccentric piston can be removed from the housing.
Be sure to retrieve the spring pin!

The wire is there to hold one or two of the spring loaded balls against the hemispherical detents within the bronze eccentric piston shaft.

You have two choices when doing this:

1..... Immediately follow the piston with a cylindrical object (a socket will work) to prevent the spring/ball from coming out of position.
When going back together, the piston will simply push the socket back out!

2.... Cut the wire for disassembly....... remove the springs/balls....... and then place another wire around the perimeter during reassembly.
Be sure to use the correct type of safety wire.

NOTE:
The new eccentric piston seal will be directional. DO NOT install incorrectly.
