Mercruiser Alpha one Gen one upper half bearing play

Hello,

I’m repairing an a1 g1 sterndrive. The bearing under the top cover was donating bits of metal to the rest of the upper. So kind.
Anyways I’ve remove the prop shaft and bearings and they all look in good shape. However the lower roller bearing on the vertical shaft has a lot of play. Is this normal? I’ve linked a YouTube video showing the play in the bearing. I appreciate any comments you may have about the condition of this bearing.

The play you have is normal, the rollors are held by the cage but the cage floats free. A new bearing may not show as much play but there still will be play.
As this is a gen 1 the wear as seen is normal.
The rollors typically look grey and used.

Its never a bad idea to do bearing replacement especially when metal particles has been getting into gear oil through out the drive.
