Hi,

I have a 1975 Evinrude 15hp outboard. I was taking the lower unit off to service to water pump. When I was pulling it off, I saw that the copper water tube that connects to the water pump was crushed about 2 inches from the end. Water can still get though but if is pretty restricted. Is it supposed to be like that? If not, how should I fix it?

Thank you,
Jeremy

The correct way is to remove powerhead and install a new tube with new grommet.----Careless work on some ones part leads to much more work to correct the error.

Right, these grommets go bad. Just remove powerhead and do it right. If you remove only the parts you HAVE TO, the job is not too bad. There are some short cuts. If you try to repair the tube when it's in place there, you could likely damage that old punky grommet. Then you could possibly overheat and damage the motor.
