How to Replace Shift Actuator Cam

Ahoy

New member
I need to replace the shift actuator cam on a '85 Johnson 20hp. The photo is borrowed from another post, but it's the same setup. Do I have to remove the power head, or is there an easier way? Thanks.

No need to remove powerhead. These are like a Chinese jigsaw puzzle to the general public. Is there a YouTube available on it? They are plastic, bind up, and break....I slightly modify the ramp/detent and grease.....you need a part? Or do you have one already?

Couldn't find a YouTube video. Do you know of one?
Tried working the old one out but had no success. The difficulty seems to be getting it off the shaft - not enough room.

I actually tore apart a 1988 30hp for parts(also have a 20hp)and to educate myself last year and couldn’t figure out how to get that off for awhile..Just not enough room to get it out even with grease fitting off.Had to loosen pan bolts to give me enough room to move it.Came right out then.I did video this struggle, but not sure I still have it?
