Replacing the thermostat

I’m new here and want to say thanks for the advice I’ve been getting on my Yamaha 40 mshq i just purchased used. So far I’ve had to clean the fuel tank and flushed any bad fuel out of the line. It started right up and the water pump didn’t work (will have parts and reassembled tomorrow). Now I’m concerned about the thermostat. Should I replace it as well and how often. It’s been in fresh water and I’ll be keeping it that way. Again thanks for all the help. I hope i can help someone on here soon.
 
Just check operating temp....if too hot or cold, then consider a thermostat problem. Got an infrared gun?.....almost unlimited uses. Should run between 145 and 150 f.

Frankly. Stats are cheap enough. If you are concerned, replace. You can also check it in boiling water. You’ll see if it still works.
