Honda BF 7.5 valve adjustment: Need to remove fuel pump first?

I have tried to search the forum for my issue with no results, so I thought I would post. I'm a newbie here, have a 1985 BF75L (SN 170,000's), and have never checked the valve adjustment after many years of ownership. Quick question: does the fuel pump need to be removed prior to the valve cover? Does it simply remove as a complete unit? Thanks for your help and having me around. Gleno, 23sailor.

Removes as a compete unit.-----But fuel pump can stay on the cover.

Wow! Thank you for your prompt notice! With only the two screws holding the fuel pump, it looked like the fuel pump might not be offended if it stayed with the valve cover, but I could find no confirmation that it would not damage the pump or the valve system. Again, thank you for the tip. Gleno

While I have the fuel pump exposed, are there any obvious things to check on the fuel pump for wear and tear, which has not seen daylight in years either? Thanks again, from Seattle, former home of the Boeing Company.
