over heating problem

I have a 2001 ox66 225 hp 2 stroke. can sit and idle at dock all day no problem. Put it in gear and idle 50 yards over heat alarm goes off. water pump has lost prime. put motor in neutral and increase rpm a little it picks water back up and cools off. Boat has new lower unit thermostats complete new water pump and pop off valve. does not run heat at speed. ANY IDEAS

You saying that when in neutral there is water exiting telltale, then when in gear water no longer exits telltale?? When installed correctly, water pump doesn’t “lose” prime. It’s spinning as the crankshaft is spinning.

Factory new lower unit and water pump ?----Or something else ?

After market was doing the same thing with the factory lower unit

230 cobia walk around . motor is one hole from being as low as it can go.
If i get above idle in gear it does fine
