Suggestions please on where to purchase a used or off a salvage boat or possibly new outdrive for a 2000
Mercury Alpha One Gen 2 3.0 Liter 4 cylinder with a 2.0 gear ratio. New to this boat stuff. We purchased the boat 2018 and have had no problems until the upper outboard went out. My brother says the bottom is ok but not the upper. Any suggestions is greatly welcomed.
 
Funny you say that. The guy who we waved down to ask for help to pull us back to the landing. Laughed and said " I thought ya'll lost your motor" But yes its a I/O.

Thanks for the SEI website. Do ya'll suggest to get just upper or should we go ahead and get upper and lower outdrive?
 
An alternate opinion:

The upper gear case on these rarely fails--it's the lower that does. I suspect, if you look around a bit, you should be able to locate a good used one for not much money.
