Tohatsu mfs25B ,loose metal clip inside of oil drain outlet??

New member
Newly acquired boat from friend that’s been sitting a few years ,motor always ran good only with exception of water circulation issues and tell tale plugging up .Well I’m going through the whole fuel system and changing oil and filter and notice only one single piece of metal up inside oil drain hole .Barely big enough I couldn’t fish it out with a magnetic pick up tool .Im hoping I haven’t been throwing money away .Anyone can tell what it may be .Tia

Could be the decompression weight; might have come off the cam. You could pull the rocker cover to see if it's missing... if you can see it without pulling the head. Would need to pull the powerhead to get it out if you can't get it through the oil drain.
If the motor is running OK, I would probably leave well enough alone.
 
Would that make I hard to pull start ?�� Sounds about right ,do you happen to have a part number for a decomp weight ??I can’t seem to find anything.Thanks Paul
 
The weight is part of the cam. Not sold separately.
Yes, that would make the pull start harder.
 
Well I couldnt take the suspense so pulled the power head and fished it out .Any clue ??

I think you are right Paul ,even though I can’t get a actual real pic of the cam shaft ,there are three similar looking pieces on mine per boats.net.But hard to tell the illustration.Should I still leave well enough alone lol.Will it affect anything else other then decompression?And thank you for your expertise.
 
Yep, that is a decompression weight. Lack of it will only make that one cylinder a little harder to pull start.

10-4,I needed to pull off head anyways to clean out water ports and replace fuel lines so all is well .Ill get her cleaned up and back together.Thanks Paul 👌
