Nissan ns5a2 checking compression is there a way to bypass decompression

want to check engine compression.
I understand the engine has something that reduces compression while starting.
Is there a way to bypass that, compression is reading 30 LBs now.

Thanks

Nope. The decompression device is a centrifical weight on the cam. Under say 1000 RPM, it decompresses.
Is the motor running OK? What is the wet compression?

Hi Paul,

By wet do you mean put a little oil in cylinder?
Not running at this time, I bought it used and I had it running but it was smoking like a 2 stroke and leaving a lot of oil on the water.
I put it up few a years ago and am just now trying to get it running.
Looking back the oil may have been a little high and I may have set it down on the wrong side.
This was my first 4 stroke and didn't know how important those 2 things were.
I am just trying to see if rings might be the cause of the oil burning before it try starting again.

Thanks for your help

So the rings are leaky for sure. A new power head is almost $1000. Having the current block honed at a machine shop and new rings may be the economical way to go.
