I'm currently on my 5th starter on this boat within the last 4 years. I've inspected the flywheel/flex plate & Tried multiple variations of shims. This past weekend I was on the lake with what i thought was the perfect amount of shims. After multiple successful start ups the SAME spinning/grinding sound from the starter reemerged. After an hour in the Texas sun removing the shims and reinstalling starter it fired right up.
Background information: Pulled engine a few years ago due to low compression on two cylinders. Went back in with Vortec heads and marine DUI distributor.
