This is the first boat I’ve owned my self, a 1994 maxum 1700 xr w/ 120hp force outboard, and I’m struggling with it a bit. I’m fairly mechanically inclined when it comes to cars but boats still have me stumped a bit haha. The main issue I’m having right now is starting up. Last week I put some regular gas in to start it up and check to make sure everything was good. It started just fine ran it for a couple minutes shut it off then started up again no problem. From what I could find I figured that the engine was 2 stroke and topped off with a 50:1 premix in the tank and now it wants to start but doesn’t seem to want too. If someone could help me understand that would be awesome.

You using the choke?
Contact Bayliner/Maxim and see if they can get you
an owners manual for your motor.

Yes you need to mix the oil with the gas 50-1

Sometimes a little starting fluid helps??
But if you need it all the time there's something wrong
that needs fixing???

Trouble shooting begins with a compression and spark test.
Make sure there's spark on all cyl.

Proper starting procedures.
Throttle advanced for quick start,
choke activated 2-3 times(pushing the key gives a shot of fuel)
then turn the key.
Too many times on the choke can flood the motor.

Try this and see, if it doesn't start, come back and describe what's happening???
