Mercury 90hp 2 stroke 2001 elpto Compression test HELP!

Alright so im gonna do a Compression test on my mercury elpto 90hp 2 stroke 2001 model i just emptied the tank on boat to replace fule that has been standing for 1 year just wanna make sure its clean, so my question is can i do a compression test without fule in boat engine? i dont know if this will damage the cylinders with no fule or if dont matter please help
 
Should i shoot the oil that the engine is running on which is Quicksilver 2 stroke oil TC-W3 also where in the carbs should i do it in the buttlefly opening?
would it not work thru spark plug holes? or thats bad idea
