Mariner 9.9 controls on Merc 25 tiller motor?!

Merc rhino riderII with original controls and 9.9 Mariner longshaft on it. Have 85-87 Merc 25 tiller motor. Boat will handle 25 with remotes (15 with tiller). What's likelyhood of cables and other stuff working or is the cost of various parts and availability going to make me want to switch back so I don't waste the rest of the summer. Looking for experience, not advice that its all available unless you know the differences. Thanks. mike
 
It wasn't the same (kit) to convert.

The 6 thru 15 kit was (universal) but the 20/25 had a different kit.

Might be able to jury-rig but be careful. Most of the parts for the 15/below are no longer available and if you jigger something up you will really be out of luck.
 
The Merc tiller if OEM shifts thru the tiller handle. If OEM you will need to find remote cable support bracket and linkages to allow remote shifting/throttle. If it was a remote coverted to tiller all the parts should still be on motor. The cables will work as they are 33C style and just need proper adapter kit. You didnt say if Merc was manual or electric start...
