1989 Johnson 175 shift and throttle hook up

I am trying to re hookup the throttle and shift rods to the engine and I am having trouble finding out which one goes where, I tried hooking them back up the way I remember but the cable will slide out of the grommet and not shift the engine.

When you move the controles from neutral to forward,the cable that moves at the motor will be the shift cable.you need the air box base on to secure them.shift cable will be lower one.
