Problem with idling

HelloI have a 1987 Johnson 50hp outboard motor I’ve been working on. I got it to start and run. It ran at a normal idle for about 10 minutes. I had the water muffs on and water was pumping through. Without doing anything the motor started to race and would not come make to idle. Any suggestions on why and what to do
 
Yes after I put it in gear. The key nor the kill switch worked but that another problem I’ll address. Probably a broken black and yellow wire or a ground wite
 
Incorrect synchronization or fuel and air restriction or both or incorrect idling .Buy a manual it will help you.
