Have a late 2006 Merc 115 hp 4 stroke on a pontoon with pinion teeth missing . Is it better to just spend 2 grand for a new lower unit or try to rebuild the old one. If i buy a new one what gear ratio should we go with? I removed the prop and took out the carrier out . Thrust bearing was OK, teeth missing on pinion . Course that was all i could disassemble without taking the lower unit off . I have never removed a 115 lower unit before but have done 15 and 65 hp in the past. . What say the Tribe? . All opinions welcome.
