    Default 91 omc cobra 4.3 setting timeing after distributer gear replacement

    So I have a 91 omc cobra 4.3 that has a bad gear on distributer I'm looking to replace it and was wondering how to set timeing wo timeing light after I replace it.

    There’s no way to properly re-install your distributor (with a new driven gear on it), without the use of a timing light!

    Auto shop 101....if it’s a points distributor you also need to learn to setvpoints with a dwell meter.

    Yes ,you can install a dist and not worry about the timing and get the motor close and running but if your too advanced or too retarded you will damage the motor .

    So when we removed the distributor we marked it and have not turned the motor over at all. Would that make a difference?

    Yes!
    The spring pin bore in the new gear will not be in the same location, therefor the gear teeth will not be indexed in the same way.
