Clean up classic paint while keeping patina

I have an old Hiawatha and an old Elgin. I am working on getting them both going again but am also thinking about making them more presentable. They each have some original paint on them, the Elgin more than that Hiawatha. Is there a way to brighten the original paint, protect it, and simultaneously not do anything to wear or chip it?

I have heard of linseed oil, but am not sure which way to go. I have clay bar, polish, wax, etc from car stuff but have never worked with paint pre 1960 before. Any ideas or advice?

My personal opinion would be to repaint using one of these new two-part polyurethane paints . They're tough as nails and will give you many years of low maintenance wear. There are a bunch of really good videos on the Internet that takes you though the process. I've always liked the videos from West marine and Jamestown Distributors. The stuff isn't cheap, however.
