reverse is forward and forward is reverse

i bought a 1991 sunbird barletta 279 had to do a restoration on it. i have a omc stern drive. finished and took it out for the first time. put in gear and it does exactly the opposite as it should. came home checked that forward was forward on the linkage in the engine compartment and it is push shifter forward and it shows forward on the indicator. if it has a clockwise prop on a counter clockwise unit is the fix to buy the right prop or is there a bigger issue?
 
Ayuh,..... Only time I ever had that problem, the cable was put into the wrong holes in the controller,.....
