1988 Borg Warner 72c leaking

So I have a 1988 crusader mated to the borg warner velvet drive. It appears to be leaking where the transmission bolts to the reduction gear. The interesting part is when I checked the fluid the next day there was a pressure release when I pulled the dipstick. Is there supposed to be pressure there? I left the dipstick "open" meaning I stuck it back down but didn't tighten it up. I did the same 4 mile run and not one drop of fluid leaked. Where the day before probably an ounce of fluid leaked. I'm assuming the pressure is pushing the oil past the seal but is there any harm in just letting the pressure escape of does there need to be pressure there. It seemed to work fine.

shouldn't be building up any pressure....sounds like the breather is stuck....and when the fluid gets hot, it expands and if the breather isn't open, positive pressure inside the case can result....is the cap on the breather free?
