Zinc refurbish

Seems to me that by wire brushing off my trim tab zinc, of the oxidation, it will refurbish the sacrificial surface area and allow you to continue using it. That's what I've been doing and I've had the same trim tab since 1997. Anyone else do this? Honda 45 Outboard.

It's not just the surface that gets depleted, but also internally. Every time I pull 100 hour maintenance, I pull the zincs and clean them up with a wire brush on a rotary wheel. I also weigh them. Once they get to about 50% of original weight, they are replaced. I also use emery cloth on all the mating surfaces in order to assure good electron flow from the engine frame. I operate exclusively in saltwater. My motor is a BF 225.
