Disconnect fuel line when not in use

We always used to disconnect the hose from the engine to run the carb empty before we trailered....

I'd say the bigger benefit to disconnecting at the engine is you can make sure the hose has minimal UV exposure....

Thanks both good reasons. I never run my carb dry though and is that the norm?

as stated before, that was WAY back when we had a trailered outboard (four boats ago)...tilting the engine up always dumped fuel and it wold minimize any varnish buildup if use dropped off...

If you engine stays 'upright' and it is used frequently, I'd say draining your fuel system isn't essential during the summer...
