2.5hp prop removal help

Hi there, I have a 2007 2.5hp mercury 4 stroke, little guy runs great but the other day I chipped the prop. I pulled the cotter pin but it does not come off. I tried tapping with a hammer but no luck. I am afraid if I hit it harder I may damage something inside. Any tips, help would be much appreciated

Try having someone hold the prop up and support the weight of the lower part of the engine while you take a hammer and a block of wood or whatever and wack on the prop shaft. Instead of trying to hammer the prop off of the engine you hammer the prop shaft through the prop. Once it is started it should be fairly easy to get that prop off. By the way, don't drop the engine. ;)
 
Thanks for the reply.... I ended up cutting it off with an angle grinder.... Turns out the shear pin bent not allowing the prop to slide out.
