88SP knocking in lower unit

I have a 97 model Johnson 88sp. after returning from the lake and during clean up I notice that there is a knocking in the lower unit. With the unit in neutral, I can turn the prop freely by hand. I can feel and hear a knock that takes place, approximately 1 knock per revolution. It however does not seem to affect the rotation. I am wondering if this might be the water pump. I did drain the oil and it was slightly milky but I don't think out of the norm.
 
?????-----When the lower unit is in neutral you can turn the prop all day long and the water pump does not turn !!!----So that is a wrong assumption.
