I’m having an issue with shifting from forward or reverse back into neutral. It is very difficult. I have recently changed the transom shift cable and I sure I don’t have the system rigged properly. I don’t think the ESA system is working at all. I found this link, http://www.hastings.org/~stuart/cobra/index.html and was wondering if this procedure will work for my 1992 model even though these instructions only show it’s applicable up to 1991?
Also think I have to upgrade my shift lever like these instructions indicate. Do I just have to get the shift lever or is there a kit I need to get to make this transition.

I'm working on getting my 92 Four Winns to shift properly as well. I have 1 91 motor the 5.8 L but it is very similar. The link that you included is very helpful but the procedure it included only goes up to 1991 and yours is a 92. I have attached the wiring diagram from my Seloc manual for your engine. You have a Interupter switch. It is supposed to activate the Electronic Shift Assist (ESA) system to reduce the RPM and make shifting easier. It may not be working. Do you have an OMC manual for your engine and OD? It will explain testing the ESA system. The first thing to do is just move the Interrupter housing up and down to activate the interrupter switch. You should hear and feel the rpm drop. Here is a link to a good video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UjpuCFoqKA
Once you are sure the ESA is working there are a series of videos by the same guy, Mike Romer.
