Run out of water

I have a Force 120 with a bad lower assembly which I have removed, obviously with the water pump. Can I run the engine for a short period without water and the lower assembly removed. If so, how long can I run it?
 
No longer than 1 min.
You can hook a hose to the water pickup and then run it.

Before you do anything, test the overheat alarm and see if it works?
Then if it does go off you know to shut it off.
