2001 5.0 GL-B Fuel Pump Relay Issue

I’m having an issue with the fuel pump relay burning up on my carbureted 5.0. Put a new relay in, will run about 30 minutes and stall. I have to put a jumper across pin 87-30 which closes the switch and allows the fuel pump to run when relay is landed in base. Issue is, fuel pump runs all the time when battery is connected. Remove jumper and fuel pump won’t run at all when alternator is turning. Anyone ever had this issue before?

Thanks, Blake

sounds like you have a bad diode , your powering up the fuel pump directly
Dos pin 86 have voltage with engine running, and does pin 95 show a ground.
If fuel injected, the ecm controls the ground for the relay

if thats you then your carb`d The diodes may be in the harness. the wire from the start relay provided power only while cranking , once the motor started the alt powers the fuel pump.
You could install the same protection as mercruiser using an oil pressure switch, a relay from a GM Blazer fuel pump (40A rating), and use the 12v off the coil or the electric choke

So, let me run this one by you guys. What if.. I run a hot from the ignition switch acc position, that way when I turn the key on, the fuel pump is running.
