Lower unit switch to change to counter rotating engine

Looking at repowering my Glacier Bay 2640. I found two 2019 Honda 150’s, but not counter rotating. Can you change the lower unit to safely change one motor to counter rotating?

Run them both as standard rotation, you won't pick the difference. You can't run a standard rotation as a counter, you will destroy the lower unit, it is not designed to work backwards if that's what you're asking. I have driven a few boats that have been reported with 2 standards and you wouldn't know it.
 
I see no reason that you couldn't replace the gearbox with a counter rotating assembly but.....those are really expensive and you might be disappointed in the results after that large a cash outlay.

I would try running them as Ian suggests and see if they don't perform as needed. If not, you can always swap out at a later time.
