I have a 1988 force 125 that started performing poorly upon trouble shooting I found the #3 cylinder did not have spark (checked with spark plug test light)I disconnected the coil for the number3 cal and swapped the coil with the #4 cal and connected both which resulted in the #3 having spark and the #4 not having spark. fast foward to now and the motor just Burt out its fourth coil in 3 seasons. since its the same cylinder and the battery is charging correctly im leaning towards a bad stator or trigger? I was going to change both and the coil until I saw the price of the parts. I don't see any wires chaffed or loose and when all 4 cal are working the motor perform flawlessly. Is it usually the stator or the trigger that goes bad and how and what are the parameters for both im assuming I would be checking resistance and/or continuity just don't know where to test with a meter

outboardignitiondotcom or CDI Ignition.
Both have test procedures for your motor.
CDI has a tech line that answers questions.

The coil going bad? bad ground, regulator bad?
Try the tech line.
Then swap the packs around.
The leads on the trigger, VERY!!!! tiny.
If they're not making a good contact they can cause the problem.
The end of the lead has a shrink wrap and the connection can break and short out.

I replace all the coonnectors on all the wires as SOP
