5L Mercruiser stops running

hi Guys

I'm running 2 x 5l mercruisers. My port side motor will start 1st go all the time but within 5 min it will die .All power goes off , can't restart no clicking , no power. I have to go to the motor and short it to start it. It happen 2- 3 times and once running no probs.
Sometimes when it dies it does restart straight away but more times then not i have to short it...

any ideas
 
Your description leaves a bit to be desired as far as clarity goes.

Assuming you mean the port engine won't CRANK after it dies and you have to JUMP the Starter at the SOLENOID, I'd suspect the slave solenoid and then the IGNITION switch. To know for sure, you have to do some trouble shooting and see where the bad connection in the STARTER circuit is (Yellow jacket with RED trace).
 
When it fails to crank, I'd check voltage at the solenoid. My guess is a bad contact, maybe in the ground leg. I'd clean all cable connections from the battery to the engine and solenoid.
 
Clean the connections at the starter including the 90A link if used. Everything starts at the starers wiring first
