1979 Evinrude 85 HP Outboard Motor

I have a 1979 Evinrude 85 H.P. Outboard Motor with Model Number 85999R. I understand what the model number designates, except for the R on the end. Does anyone know the answer to this question. I also have the serial number of the motor, and a couple of other numbers that came with the original warranty card.

The R is really insignificant.----Might indicate a production run / date / plant or minor mid year change.----Nothing of concern to the average owner.
