no water 1979 40hp ser # 5368733

trying to find out if my engine has a thermostat or not and if it may be stuck. won`t pump water but does spit a little out of the hole on top of what i asume is the thermostat housing. Ser # is 5268733
 
First install a new impeller.------Yes there may be a thermostat housing on top of the block.----Water out of that small hole may mean that there is a leak at the poppit valve diaphragm.----Compression test might also be a good thing to do.
