Mercury 25 Flywheel Magnets

Need some help with my 1996 Mercury 25. My flywheel has started to rust underneath and recently one of the magnets broke off. I ordered a new one on eBay, part numbers matched up. I just found out that the new flywheel has four magnets while my old one only had two. My motor has no charging system or electric start. Since there is no stator on my motor, would this work the way it is?

If there is no stator, I'm wondering why your flywheel has magnets at all!
Usually, the ignition is driven off the flywheel magnets.
Having twice the number of magnets would definitely affect the operation of the ignition system.

Dom probably means he has no alternator. The orientation of the 2 magnets should be the same on both types. If they line up it might work. Never tried it. Perhaps the new part number is the same because they stopped making the 2 magnets series. Having the additional magnets adds weight to the rotating assembly. This may help slightly at idle, but no other benefits.
