Hi guys, I'm Ryan. New to the forum and boating. I recently purchased a boat with a 1985 Mercury 50HP with Quicksilver controls.

My first question, it doesn't seem to have a neutral button on the control box & also when you push the throttle forward only one cable seems to move so not sure how it will shift or stay in neutral?

Any info will be appreciated.

Post a picture of your control box.-----It has a neutral / fast idle function.------On most control boxes it is the shift cable that moves first !----Once motor is in gear the throttle cables moves.-----And I suggest a quick trip to your local friendly boat shop.------Buy a gallon of oil!-----Ask how your control box works and how you start this motor.----Install a new water pump impeller before you launch your new aquasition.
