Motor guide trolling motor won’t stop running

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I went fishing yesterday and while using my trolling motor it decided to just run constantly. I traced it down to possibly it being the foot pedal switch. I unhooked the switch and of course the blade stopped spinning. Am I headed in the right direction by changing the switch or could it possibly be something a little more serious? Thanks

Hey Nitro, you might want to include your model and mfg. date of your MotorGuide.
I think I'd try to isolate the switch and test it before just throwing parts at it.

It’s a motorguide pro series 6700 24 volt. I’m not sure what the date is. I’d guess it was purchased around the time the boat was originally purchased which was 2004. How do I isolate the switch? Thanks

If it's just a switch, you disconnect it and test for continuity when in "on" position and no continuity in the "off".

Numbers and dates matter as there are revisions constantly in these. Here I can at least direct you to part lists and schematic. You may need your pedal info as well......

I already looked up the switch on boats.net. I looked all over the trolling motor for a date and can’t find one. I’m going to test the continuity tomorrow. Thanks for the help. A7A1C3C1-3BBE-47CD-8837-6B20024FD3DE.png
