Mercury 50 horse 2 stroke

Some simple ( in my opinion ) checks for you to do.-------Check all battery cables / connections / grounds on your wiring.------Might also be an issue with switches in control box.---One is a switch that prevents cranking when motor is in gear.----Other is the ignition switch itself.------You can put 12 volts to solenoid terminal to bypass a lot of wiring on the motor.----And is this a 1962 model or a 2002 model.-----Use caution with 12 volts if you are unsure of what you are doing.---Mistakes can leads to big sparks and smoke.
