Motor won't stay running

Hi all,

I'm having some trouble with my 89 mariner 30 hp longshaft oil injected outboard.

I've removed the oil injection system and blocked the ports for the oil mixer module. I can get the motor to fire when the throttle is wide open but it dies after a few seconds.

I've opened the fuel pump, looks clean. I've currently got the carby removed and it looks OK too.

Can anyone give advice on this particular problem with this particular model.

Kind regards.

John

Did you do a spark test? Could be bad wires from the trigger or any wires that move with throttle position. When did the problem start?

Hi there Time Guy,

Thank you for your reply, it's much appreciated.

I have not done a spark test yet, will follow up with that. I do remember last Yr I would not start either when I had the mobile mechanic out, he disconnected some wires that gad a bit of corrosion where the plugs join. I will also inspect the wiring.

I've completed a refurb on my little pride over the last month, I've had the problem for about 3 weeks as starting the outboard was my last check before testing the new setup, sadly I'm still stuck on shore lol.

Thanks mate
