Volvo Penta DPS - Lower Unit Replacement

Hi Guys, new to the forum and am looking for advice.

Last fall I attempted to replace the outdrive lube in my 2002 Volvo Penta DPS.

Using the special prop removal tool, I was able to remove the two propellers. In doing so, the prop shaft bearing carrier came out with the propellers as well ( see picture below and PN#28 on diagram below ). Sorry the pictures and diagrams are so small.

I was totally perplexed as to how this could have happened.

After further inspection of the innards of the lower unit, everything appears to be fine. The gears, shafts, and bearings all seemed to be fine. Also there was no evidence of water mixed in with the gear lube.

In anyone's experience, is this an issue that requires a complete lower unit replacement? Or as simple as inserting the pieces parts back inside the unit?

Thanks.
