Hi we had problems with fuel and starting. The bulb did not seem to go or stay very hard. The engine stuttered at higher revs.
We fitted a new fuel pump and looked at the high pressure fuel pump. The fuel pump metal gauze filter was blocked about 50 percent .
After this the engine started better today and we ran about 16 miles in total with full rpm and happy days.

However when stopped to drift for a few minutes we found we needed to prime the bulb before it started after the drifts We have brand new odyssey pc2150 so loads of cca .

we have changed the fuel lead and bulb in the past. What else should we check and what would make the bulb seem to go soft when we stop so sufficiently that we need to pump to achieve reliable restart?

we have cleared all the faults on the diagnostics and no fault recorded after the trip so electrically at least the higher pressure fuel pump is working.

any suggestions please

thanks Gary

What were your issues with fuel and starting? What codes did the motor show?

The primer for an MD90A2 should firm up pretty well. If not, fuel is leaking and overflowing at the vapor separator, or the check valves in the bulb aren't sealing well.
Why did you change the low pressure pump? was the flow to the FFP poor?
What is a metal gauze filter?
When running, the primer is under suction, so it might soften up.
What are your air rail and fuel rail pressures?

thank you for your reply . The codes we cleared all related to low battery . Hence why we bought the new battery to clear that . It was only starting with a lot of force feeding of the bulb and switching the engine on to power up the ffp. We have looked for fuel leaks and checked the spring clips and can see none .
we put a new fuel pump on its it’s been the same one since 2004 ! It looked a bit stretched but could not see a tear .
we inspected the ffp housing and at the bottom of the pump is a filter which looks like Gauze . As I said it was mainly blocked .
we are now getting full revs but a little puzzled why we still have to prime the bulb after running and then drifting with the engine off . Perhaps we have a faulty primer bulb and this will be the first thing we do next .
we have not measured the rail pressures as we don’t have a suitable device . Perhaps we should do that if the new bulb does not improve things . Engine runs fine now no codes but we don’t expect to have to prime after a five minute break ? Or is this normal
thanks Gary

No, that's not normal. The fuel rail should hold pressure for several minutes, and slowly bleed off. Then, on restart, the FFP should pressurize the rail in a few seconds. So even if you disconnected the fuel line, I would expect a fairly quick restart. You may have a malfunctioning fuel pressure or air pressure regulator. I would check with your local dealer to verify.
