Counter rotating outboard questions

Is the only difference in the lower unit? Can a counter-rotating lower unit be installed in place of a regular rotating lower unit? Without any changes to the rest of the motor?

Yes, you have to change the cable position in the control box and use a counter rotating prop.

Just to be clear, you cannot replace a standard/right hand rotation lower with a Counter/left hand rotation lower and use the standard rotation prop.

Agreed. Did you know that even the Wright Brothers in 1903, engineered the Wright Flier with two 8 foot laminated spruce props which counter rotated? The 4 cylinder overhead valve aluminum block engine weighed in at 180 pounds and produced 12 hp when hot but 17 hp when cold. Talk about engineers, eh? What happened to our engineers?

We can put 200 horsepower on an 800 pound snowmobile and race it on water, eh? But can we put a 12 hp motor on an 800 pound airframe and fly a man around the Statue of Liberty? WTF? No carb....a heat triggered "vaporizer"! WHAT???
