60Hp Marineer - Need help fixing year down

Hi I've purchased on old boat recently circa mid 1980's - The engine has no serial number - I understand from research it could be either a Yammah or mercury block depending on the switch over. It has no serial number on the transom or leg. I was hoping t verify year so I an obtain a manual and spares. Many thanks if you an help. (ps the boat it was on was a UK boat Sims Super V)

I say 1985 model.----That is based on your serial #---Replace impeller.----Check thermostat and poppit valve if equipped with those items.------Post compression test numbers.
 
Thks for quick note. Daft question, is the serial number the one on the water plug on the block, and does the est year make it a mercury vs a yam.

Some of us take a glance at that motor and instantly know that it is a MERCURY design with first production year being 1972 !!!
